ActivSpaces and 1% Club have always enjoyed warm relations, both organizations believing in the power of sharing knowledge and resources for the greater social good. At ActivSpaces we pride ourselves in taking constant action but we were pleasantly surprised when barely a month after the enormously successful 1% Co-Creation Event, we received word that a visiting fellow from 1% Club would be coming to “Kameroen” to host a workshop.
The Social Media Aficionado
We’d like to welcome and introduce you to Niels Jansen, our most recent visiting fellow and Marketing & Communications Manager at 1% Club in the Netherlands. Niels is an advocate of the positive power of social media and wants to share his knowledge of the best practices in using digital tools for outreach and interaction.
What is digital storytelling?
Digital storytelling is a modern and technology-based form of the ancient art of recounting a tale. Digital stories are powerful because they weave together prose, imagery, audio and video; they can be easily updated in real time and they are propelled by ever burgeoning social networks.
Experience is the Best Teacher
The audience of a digital story is always engaged and impassioned. The story presents itself as it happens, the audience can contribute to the story, and most importantly, a digital story can easily be shared to relevant contacts, friends and family — it travels across a line of trust. Niels has led numerous outreach campaigns and has learned by experience that knowing how to share experiences digitally is a potent weapon in the communications arsenal of any enterprise.
The Digital Storytelling Workshop starts on Thursday, November 3rd at 3:00pm till Friday, November 4th, 5:00pm. The session will be hosted by ActivSpaces in our HQ at Fakoship Plaza, Buea. A dozen social entrepreneurs from around Cameroon will get together for two days of fun, networking but mostly, learning.
Niels is imparting a little of his resources and knowledge hoping that this will positively effect the use of our resources and knowledge. It’s the 1% philosophy. By the end of this workshop, a dozen individuals engaged in social enterprise around Cameroon will have a fresh perspective on digital media and storytelling. A happy ending to this session depends, of course, on where we all decide stop the story ;)
